Video Description
San Carlos Beach, located at the edge of Monterey Bay, has been the center of attention for months. Since late August 2025, the beach became temporarily occupied by sea lions, which took over the shoreline, turning it into their resting ground. During that period, the beach was closed to the public to protect both the animals and visitors. For several weeks, locals and tourists gathered from a distance to watch dozens of sea lions sunbathing, barking, and resting across the sand — a rare and powerful reminder of how wildlife can reclaim human spaces along the California coast. Recently, the sea lions left the area, and the beach officially reopened to the public. With the departure of the sea lions, San Carlos Beach has returned to its familiar rhythm — now taken over by scuba divers and training schools. Every Saturday, the beach transforms into a hub for dive students and instructors, as multiple diving schools from across California come to conduct training sessions. The clear waters and easy shore access make San Carlos one of the best entry-level dive spots in Monterey Bay. Today, instead of the loud barks of sea lions, the beach is filled with the sound of air tanks, bubbling regulators, and excited voices of new divers preparing to enter the Pacific Ocean. It’s a beautiful example of nature and humans sharing the same space, each taking turns to enjoy this special corner of the Monterey coastline.
