I still remember the day, 1 Feb, 2024, our Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, announced the new tax exemption limit. While working at my office, a colleague asked me: “Bhai, kaha invest karu? Ab toh 12 lakh tak tax-free hai.” Where should I invest now that income up to ₹12 lakh is tax-free? I smiled and replied: “Bhai, income tax exemption 12 lakh tak hai capital gains tax nahi.” Income up to ₹12 lakh is exempt from tax but not your capital gains. That was the moment I realized: even employees from IITs earning ₹25 LPA often lack basic financial knowledge.
